Printable Expert Sudoku Puzzles

Six expert puzzles, verified by a solver to need exactly the techniques listed under each grid, with answer keys on a separate page. Prefer pencil marks and hints? Each puzzle is also playable online.

Expert sheets require a fish: an X-Wing or a Swordfish, patterns that reason across the whole grid rather than inside one unit. Printing these is a deliberate choice, because they are the tier where paper is hardest — you need complete and accurate candidate marks before the pattern can even be looked for, and a single bookkeeping error will send you hunting for a structure that is not there.

The compensation is that paper suits the search well once the marks are right. An X-Wing is a claim about where a digit can go across two lines, and scanning a full sheet for that is genuinely easier by eye than through a screen, with no scrolling and the whole grid in view at once.

If a puzzle here stalls, the fault is more often in the marks than in the reasoning. Re-deriving a unit's candidates from scratch is usually faster than hunting for the error.

Printable Expert Sudoku FAQ

Are these printable expert puzzles really expert?
Yes, verifiably. Every puzzle is checked by a solver that records the exact techniques required, and these are rated Expert because of the hardest technique they need — not a guess or a star rating. Each puzzle lists its required techniques.
Is it worth printing Expert puzzles rather than playing them online?
It depends what you want from the session. Online gives you accurate candidates for free, which removes the most common source of failure. Paper puts the entire grid in view at once, which genuinely helps when scanning for an X-Wing or Swordfish across several lines.
I marked the grid carefully and still cannot find the fish. What now?
Suspect the marks before the reasoning. A single missed elimination will hide a valid X-Wing or invent an invalid one. Re-derive the candidates for the rows or columns you are testing from scratch — it is usually quicker than auditing the whole sheet.
