You can complete every Easy puzzle with singles alone: scan a row, column, or box, find the cell a digit is forced into, and place it. No pencil-mark bookkeeping is required, which makes these the right starting point if you are new to Sudoku.

The useful thing to know about this tier is what it does not contain. No Easy puzzle here requires an elimination — every step is a placement you can justify by scanning one row, column or box. That means you can never be genuinely stuck: if nothing is placeable, you have missed something rather than run out of technique.

Played in the browser, the tier is best used for pace. Turn the timer on and treat a stall as information about your scan order rather than about the puzzle. Most people lose time here by re-sweeping the whole grid after every placement instead of checking the row, column and box they have just changed.

When you finish these without hesitating rather than when you finish them quickly. The signal is that scanning has become automatic and the puzzle no longer makes you think, which is precisely the point at which the tier has stopped teaching you anything.
