Why these two appear together

A Naked Triplet is a candidate-count reducer, and an X-Wing is a technique that only becomes available once candidate counts are low. That dependency is the whole reason this pairing is instructive: the triplet is not merely another obstacle in the same grid, it is usually the step that manufactures the fish.

Three cells holding three digits between them let you strike those digits from the rest of the unit, and the lines running through that unit lose candidate positions as a result. A digit sitting in four possible cells of a row can drop to two, and the X-Wing condition — exactly two homes in each of two rows, aligned on the same columns — becomes satisfiable where it was not before.

The practical lesson is one of sequencing. If you go fish-hunting on these grids before clearing the subsets, you will correctly conclude there is no X-Wing, and you will be wrong five moves later.

Why does the Naked Triplet have to come first?
Because it creates the conditions the X-Wing needs. The triplet's eliminations reduce how many cells a digit can occupy in the surrounding lines, and an X-Wing requires a digit with exactly two homes in each of two lines. Before the triplet fires, that condition typically does not hold.
Can a puzzle need the X-Wing before the triplet?
It is possible in principle but uncommon, and none of the curated puzzles here are built that way. The dependency runs from cheap eliminations to expensive patterns far more often than the reverse, which is why the standard technique order is ordered as it is.
